Hermana Autumn Twitchell

Sept 3, 2014
¡Hola Familia¡
Life is so great here in Mexico! I have the best compañera in the world, my distrito is awesome! I play volleyball everyday, the weather is always gorgeous whether it´s clear skies or thunder, lightning, and rain. I am studying the beautiful language of español and most importantly, I am training to invite and help others come to Christ!
First of all I just want to tell you how thankful I am that we were able to find those compact separate scriptures! They really are a lifesaver because they are so light and small and perfect!!
My compañera is Hermana Ka'a'a (pronounced Kaw-aw-aw) and she was born and raised in Hawaii. She is going to the Sacramento mission like me! I have to tell you that she is so beautiful in every way, inside and out! I wish I could send you a picture of her, but I´m not quite sure how yet. I´ll make it a goal to figure it out this week. She didn´t know any español previously, so I´ve been trying to help her a lot with that, but it is awesome! It makes me realize how much español I actually know!
So I guess they sent out an email to everyone beforehand asking if they were to be in the intermediate class or the beginner class and I´m pretty sure I did not get that email, but that´s okay because I love Hermana Ka'a'a too much!
Coming to the MTC we were on a bus and it was funny because the Elders would not let the Hermanas do a thing! One Elder said that if they had the Hermanas lift any of the suitcases they would be struck down by the hand of God. I thought that was a bit much, but oh well! Mexico is so beautiful! While we were descending in the airplane all the buildings were either topped with a red roof or a soccer field. At that point I knew that I was no longer in the USA. Driving through Mexico City was beautiful because there is so much culture! All the houses are different colors and they are all so close together! They aren´t afraid to show off their style and personalities. The CCM is like a safe haven because the houses on campus aren´t actually touching each other.
The food is great! I feel bad for the people that don´t like spicy food though because nothing has flavor unless it is spicy or a fruit. The cafeteria is a lot different from the one in Provo, but it is really nice. The workers are so friendly and one day they actually had American food, so I told one of the workers, "¡La iglesia es verdadera!" I think they thought I was crazy. :P

MY district has 4 hermanas y 8 elderes. I love them so much! Mamacita, I think you would like one of them because they look and act like David Archuleta. Then there is another Elder that reminds us all of Chris Farley and he is very funny!
Starting last Friday we have been teaching a man, named Carlos, about the gospel in español! It was funny on the first day because we really weren't that accustomed to speaking only Spanish that first day. But on Monday, we taught him the restauración and it was such a spiritual experience! I wasn´t very comfortable with teaching the lesson without notes until Carlos said that he thought the church was discriminating because not everyone has the opportunity to be baptized and that in the Catholic faith they believe that little children go to Hell if they are not baptized. I had to help him understand even if it was not in my notes. So I told him a little bit about one of my favorite things in this entire world: the temple! I told him that everyone has the opportunity to be baptized whether it is in this life or the next because we have the right authority and temples! I also told him that little children are perfect and don´t need baptism until they are 8 because then they can think for themselves. It was such a great experience! I could feel the love that the Lord has for Carlos and I know that he could feel it, too. I also didn´t even realize that I knew all the words that I did! I felt bad because I was talking most of the lesson, but Hermana Ka'a'a is still learning español and doesn´t know that much quite yet. I know that she will get it and she will be an amazing missionary! I know that through Heavenly Father I can receive the gift of tongues and so can mi compañera.
On Sunday I gave a talk about La apostasía. Every week we have to prepare a talk, but we don´t if we have to give it until a minute or so before we actually have to give it. When they called my name I was extremely nervous, but then I put myself in the mindset of: I want to give this talk, I want to share my testimony and what I know about the apostasy! It was great! It was very simple because I really can´t say much about the apostasy in español. But when I started to bear my testimony, I was able to feel the spirit so strong, especially when I told them that I know that families can be together forever. I know that this is true. I wouldn´t be here if I didn't think that.

Translation  I know that Jesus Christ is my savior and I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know that families are forever and families can live together forever . I love my family forever.
My Spanish is far from perfect , but Jesus Christ himself is perfect and can do all things !

God Be with you With love ,
